This week was transfers...and nothing changed. Super exciting. This
was the first transfer of my mission where our entire district stayed the exact
same. Not going to lie - I was a little disappointed in the lack of excitement.
But it’s all good because I love my district. That also means that I will be in
Phoenix until June. So I’m 100% going to get the real heat. Not excited for
that. This is also the last transfer for President and Sister Sweeney. They are
going home and we will be getting President and Sister Robinson as our new
mission President. It's pretty sad but I am sure all will be well. Change is
good for the most part.
This last week was a little anti-climactic so I don't have much to
write about. We did a big service project where we went and cleaned up at an
elementary/high school down town. I was on trash duty with some other
missionaries. I ended up finding some interesting things, including three used
diapers. I think this week has showed me that that you can choose to be happy.
Obviously it is harder in some moments than others, but we really can focus on
the positive. Not that picking up trash is the worst thing ever, but we just
focused on what was fun and it was a blast.
We had some good lessons this last week, but they are all kind of a
blur. One lesson that was really cool was that we were leaving an area after we
had been contacting for a while and found no one. I had to turn the car around
in a driveway so my companion got out of the car to back me up (yeah we
actually do that and it can be pretty awkward) and this man come out of his
house to ask if we were Jehovah’s Witnesses. So because my companion was out of
the car and we were being obedient with the rules, we were able to teach this
man about the restoration of the gospel. HE asked US for a Book of Mormon so he
could read it and find out if it was true. Before we even got to telling him
about it! He was just visiting a friend so he is not in our area to teach, but
it was such a good reminder to me of why we have the rules we have and why we
follow them even when we think no one is watching, and we think they are not
necessary (as bad as a driver as I am, I am fully capable of backing out of a
driveway).
One great surprise of the week was that I got to see Sister Ferre! (AKA
Chloe to the rest of the world). It was so great, and the members know how much
we love each other so we got to have lunch at member’s houses together twice
and then saw each other again when she visited the ward. It was great. It is
always a little weird to see missionaries post mission - in pants and what not -
but it was so good. I definitely needed that this week and it was just a
blessing to get to say hi again.
I feel like I have been super blessed this week with my Spanish in
lessons. I just start talking and the words come. We speak English so much
because, #1 this is America and, #2 we are teaching mostly English speaking people
right now. It can be a little frustrating because it is a lot harder to learn
Spanish when you don't get to speak it a whole lot, but I finally feel like it
is coming. But mostly just the teaching gospel stuff in Spanish, the random
conversation in Spanish is another story…
Not much else to write about, I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Sister Doxey
